Are you a Vegetarian, Vegan, or Meat eater scrambling around looking for a place to eat fresh food in Fort Lauderdale? Then make sure you head on over to Living Green Fresh Market. One day while shopping at Whole Foods the cashier makes a restaurant recommendation that is down the street. In my confusion while driving I miss the restaurant, make a left and drive for about two miles till I pull over into the Living Green Fresh Market strip mall / grocery store / wine depot / sandwich shop / coffee house. You could say they’re a multi hyphenated establishment. I have often driven past Living Green and mentally made it a point to visit someday. Well the moment had arrived.
My first reaction was neat and tidy. I really liked the layout and design. What caught my eye was a local Raw Honey stand right in the middle of the store. I love it when grocery stores support local farmer’s. It’s not always possible as I discovered from the owner Tony. The middle of summer isn’t the best conditions for gathering a large supply of fruits and vegetables in Southern Florida. It’s nice to get a straight answer in a grocery store. I’ve asked some big chain stores similar questions and was directed to email my requests into the corporate office. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that all my fruit and vegetable questions don’t need a corporate office answer.
So right next to the Florida Raw Honey was some fresh pineapple chunks for tasting and they were perfect. I could eat all of them but I controlled myself. The fruits and vegetables were precisely stocked in order in a perfect wall display that encouraged me to buy. Some more sample stations were located throughout the store. I was getting my pre-meal lunch snack on when I spotted a multi-grain tomato and buffalo mozzarella cheese sandwich with basil and some kind of aioli or pesto sauce. Bam! Forget about it. I finished my lunch with an espresso and said, “asta lapasta.” Keep on Keeping on Tony. Generally these corner markets are sloppy and unkempt, not Green Market. I’ll be back.
